Rush, El Toro Blanco vs MJF, El Matador! Kevin Knight Has Joined With WHO?! Mercedes Mone Comes Out As The Wild Card!

Hola, lucha fans! This is Lucha Corner, where I bring you mucho wrestling! I'm Francis aka Francisthewitcher, and today I'm here to bring you a new review for this week's AEW Dynamite.

The show kicked off with Rush delivering a promo about his upcoming match with MJF, but just when he was about to deliver his iconic catchphrase, MJF gets on his face and they both get into a brawl.

Not long after Andrade came to meet him just moments before the title match was starting, having a talk of hermano to hermano to wish him good luck. It was great to see them reuniting on TV in a long time. Though at the same time I wish that I could've see the moment where Andrade reunite with Naito since they both have a lot of history back in CMLL. But I digress.

Singles Match For The AEW World Title: Rush VS MJF.

The show started with what has to be the most intense, crude, and amazing opener that was Rush facing MJF for the AEW championship. When Rush announced he signed a contract with AEW, I was expecting to see him climbing up through the midcard until he'd get a shot for a title. Of course, the injuries, the VISA, and other circumstances kept that moment waiting for too long, not to mention he's been mostly featured on ROH.

Recently, however, we've been watching Rush finally winning over the crowd little by little until he became the hottest contender in this bout. MJF also did a marvelous job to gain more heat, and the part where he came out dressed as a matador was funny, yet smart.

Also it was a very interesting dynamic between these men, especially when they share something in common as heels. And I could already see that when I saw MJF threw Rush headfirst into the exposed turnbuckle, and moments later, Rush did the same with MJF.

The way it ended the match, with Rush refusing to give up under MJF's submission lock and the referee stopped the match when he passed out was a really nice touch to protect Rush's character and I feel like Rush is going to come back to set sight on another title, probably the International or the National one.

Singles Match: 'Blackheart' Lio Rush vs Mark Briscoe.

After the intense title match, not long after Mark Briscoe went to stop MJF from hitting Rush with the belt, we got to see the Chicken Kung Fu fighter taking on the scary Lio Rush.

What I find very interesting in Lio Rush's new character, aside that his crepiness and bizarre behaviour is becoming popular, is that his ramblings has some sort of foreshadowing. What I mean is, in the previous matches, he's been referencing about the opponents he faced before. For example, in his match with PAC, he was seemingly talking to himself and quote:

"They used to call him The King... You gotta dig deep. He knew!"

Now recently, during his indirect interaction with the Conglomeration, he's mentioning something about "Rain", that raises the question. Who or what he's referring to? Is it the Rainmaker, Okada? Or something else?

Anyway, this was a very fun match with two wrestler sharing some chemistry and I'm glad that Lio's new gimmick is starting to connect with the crowd in sort of way that led him to have more spotlight. But the best part was after the match, Mark Briscoe delivered what could be the best promo of his career.

He talked about how the day he made a debut in AEW changed his life for the better when he struggled after his brother's passing, of how meeting new friends and brothers helped him to find joy and love to be a professional wrestler again. But when he met MJF, he felt the anger resurging and demanded to give him the title shot, since he defeated him in a match before.

Of course, in a backstage interview, MJF refused to give him a chance for a title shot because he still claims that Briscoe is not on the same level as the other challengers he defeated. It's more likely we're gonna get to see this match sooner than we think, though that remains to be seen.

Also it's been recently reported that MJF has suffered a hyperextended knee, but hopefully it's not too serious and he would come back soon.

Singles Match: Kevin Knight vs 'Speedball' Mike Bailey.

Before we got to the next match, we saw Andrade El Idolo mopping the floor with a local talent and delivered a brief promo where he challenges MJF for the world title. Suddenly, Don Callis came out to make an introduction to the newest member of the Don Callis' Family, who was none other that Kevin Knight!

To quote the iconic Jim Ross, this announcement came out of nowhere, and honestly I have doubts about the idea of Kevin Knight joining the Don Callis' faction when he already proved he has what it takes to be the lone wolf, so to speak. We've seen that delivering a great promo after the events of Double or Nothing, so why is that? At the very least him joining the Hurt Syndicate or Swerve's Mogul Embassy would make more sense than that.

That being said, I still would like to see where this is going because I have a slight impression that maybe Kevin Knight didn't join DCF because he really wanted to, but hopefully we'll get the answers soon.

Anyhow, after Kevin Knight got the warm welcome from Don Callis and his men, Mike Bailey makes an entrance to start their match, and this really delivered as we could expect. Remembering how was their last match in the C2 Tournament last year, I figured this one would be more intense, given that Kevin Knight has turned heel and this wouldn't be just a friendly competition.

Despite my concerns I mentioned earlier, the good thing is that Kevin Knight still got a great start as the heel as the crowd's response made more than clear that he's going to have a killer run as the bad guy.

However, I truly wonder if that's gonna be the last we'll see in this match because I was under the impression it was going to be developed for the new AEW Redemption PPV. Maybe it will still happen along the line, but it only remains to be seen.

After the match, Kevin Knight took the mic and made a bold promise that he's going to carry two belts and challenged MJF for the AEW world title. This brings another question if we'll ever see MJF defending his title against a DCF member, and if Don Callis would agree with it when he's actually his business partner? This could lead up the fall of the faction if it's true Don Callis is taking some bribery from MJF, but again, we might see the answer very soon.

The Owen Hart Women's Tournament Match: Alex Windsor vs Wild Card (Mercedes Mone).

Next was Alex Windsor facing the Wild Card for the way to Owen Hart Tournament's semifinals, and AEW didn't let us wait much longer to reveal who was the wild card... And it was revealed to be Mercedes Mone!

I really loved the moment where the crowd popped the moment her name was shown on the stage screen and chanted her CEO nickname. As much as I hoped it would be another return or a possible debut, I'm actually very happy to see Mercedes back in AEW as clearly her absence was a huge blow for the women's division, as I've said in my first Dynamite review.

Furthermore, it makes more sense for Mercedes to go back for the tournament and face Alex Windsor since they both have experience in the ring and they proved to have great chemistry in this match, which made more fun to watch. Also what's interesting is that Mercedes is still playing the angle that she's trying to not to lose her mind br after losing all the titles she used to carry in her multi-champion run, and this tournament could be the breaking point if she ever loses.

With Mercedes taking the victory, she's going to face either Persephone or Hazuki which we're going to see the match this Saturday's Collision and I'm so excited about it. Not only that, it was now confirmed that Skye Blue and Saree are finally gonna face each other next week in Summer Blockbuster. It's gonna be a mind-blowing moment when we'll see who's gonna face who in the finals.

The Women Hart's Men's Tournament Match: Will Ospreay vs Mark Davis.

Now we're going to talk about the main event and possibly the MOTN, Mark Davis vs Will Ospreay. Last time they faced each other, Mark Davis delivered a nasty piledriver on the apron that rendered Ospreay unconscious. This time however was gonna be different after Ospreay took the offer from the Death Riders and not only he was completely recovered, but now more vicious than before.

Not only this match was insane because of how both wrestlers performed astoundingly, but because during the last minutes of the match, we've seen a ref bump and immediately after the members of the DCF attacked Ospreay before the Death Riders came out to help him. The greatest part about it was when Moxley and Marina Shafir went to take on Jake Doyle, and also when Kyle Fletcher attacked Ospreay before Konosuke Takeshita came in to stop him.

Usually I'm not a fan of the type of matches where in the last minutes I see constant interferences while the referee is unconscious, but this time felt so different in a good way. Maybe because they brought out the top stars or how well it was executed. Maybe it's more because when the run ins was over, it all seemed like the match was gonna end with Ospreay delivering the Hidden Blade, but Mark Davis kicked out and hit Ospreay with the piledriver, and yet another kick out.

Ending the match with Ospreay submitting Davis with an armbar was just so perfect to end the show with a high note.

Conclusion.

Once again, AEW Dynamite gave another solid show with the return of Mercedes Mone, the opening match of MJF vs Rush, and the main event between Mark Davis and Ospreay. And I wonder if next week's Summer Blockbuster is gonna be the 4-hour special show like the last time, but whatever the case is, I know it's gonna be another banger show with these upcoming matches they announced.

Then again, I was expecting more development with the upcoming Forbidden Door PPV, but after watching Thekla's promo where she spit on the Stardom logo, I'm very excited to find out who's gonna respond to her insult and challenge her for the AEW Women's Title.

On the other hand, I hope by the time BOSJ is over, we'll find out which talent from NJPW is gonna head to AEW for Forbidden Door. I'm still hoping we'd get to see talent like Shingo Takagi, Hirooki Goto, Taichi and a few more. To be honest, maybe they should need to re-schedule Forbidden Door next time, but only time will tell.

I hope you enjoy reading my review. If you have an opinion to share or have any questions, leave a comment. And don't forget to follow me on Twitter and Instagram.

Without further ado, I wish you all lucha fans a very nice day and please support pro wrestling and lucha libre altogether!

Collision Is Back on Saturday! PROGRESS and DEFY Wrestling Sold! NJPW Bought By CyberAgent! Ibushi Seeks To Save The Culture of Pro Wrestling!

Good day, lucha fans! I'm Francis aka Francisthewitcher and this is Lucha Corner, where I bring you mucho wrestling! And today I bring you a new entry which is gonna be a little more different than the previous ones I made. While I'm looking to talk more about other brands aside just AEW, I thought I could try to make a sort of mini-review about last Saturday's Collision, and after that, I'd like to share my opinions about some news we learned during the past week. So let's get to it! Let's start with what we saw in Collision. Not only it was great to see the show again on the weekend, it also had a very interestng card compared to what we got back in Dynamite, and by that I mean is the talent that has been featured in this occassion.  For starters, we got Hazuki making her debut on AEW and facing Maya World in an outstanding match, basically to prepare Hazuki from her upcoming match against Persephone who made a return after being "injured" by Julia H...

Tensions Grows Within The Don Callis Family! Mark Briscoe Finally Gets A Title Shot? Darby Allin Makes A Surprise Return! What Can We Expect For Forbidden Door?

Hola, lucha fans! Welcome to Lucha Corner, where I bring you mucho wrestling! I'm Francis aka Francisthewitcher, and today's blog entry I'm going to talk about the events that transpired in AEW Dynaite: Summer Blockbuster. And this time I feel like there's some points I need to talk. So let's get started! Tommaso Ciampa and Jericho's Promo. Tomasso Ciampa kicked off the show by coming out to the ring and farm more heat from the fans as he threatened Tony Schiavone of breaking his back if he wouldn't say that he's better than Chris Jericho. And just before Schiavone was going to comply, Jericho finally comes out after two weeks in absence.  When Jericho gets inside the ring to confront Ciampa, that's when things went the way I wasn't expecting. Let me explain, the first half of the segment felt pretty odd because what Jericho could say after Tommasso Ciampa attacked him, leaving him inactive for a couple of weeks, was that "Tommy" sound...
