Divine Dominion Facing A Real Challenge! Death Riders and STP Collide Again! Rock Hard Robinson Takes On 100-Proof Connors! Who Earns The Ticket To Owen Hart Tournament's Semifinals?
Hola, lucha fans! Welcome all to another entry of Lucha Corner, where I bring you mucho wrestling! I'm Francis aka francisthewitcher and today I'm here to give you a recap of what transpired the events of last Saturday's Collision and what are my thoughts.
So let's get started!
AEW Women's Tag Team Match: Divine Dominion (C) vs TayJay.
The show kicked off with TayJay taking on Divine Dominion for the women's tag team titles. One of the things I really like about women's tag team wrestling is watching how two female wrestlers can works so well together to become new tag team just like what we see in the men's tag team.
The Divine Dominion have shown to be a fierce powerhouse team, and TayJay proved they're a strong hard-hitting duo, which by the way, I really enjoyed seeing how both Tay Melo and Anna Jay have become more consistent with their improvement. The match was also enjoyable too as an opening with both teams giving their best performance to make Divine Dominion's tag team defense very entertaining.
Though the only question remains, after TayJay has been defeated, who's gonna be the next to challenge Divine Dominion. My gut feeling is telling me the Brawling Birds might be next, but on the other hand with Forbidden Door coming, I wonder if a Stardom tag team will step in to challenge Megan Bayne and Lena Kross. I'm still hoping Nyla and Nightshade would come out though.
Trios Match: Death Riders vs STP (Shane Taylor Promotions).
Before the next match was started, we saw the leader Shane Taylor himself coming out to go into action, no pun intended, against an unaffiliated talent who's also none other than Alan Angels, the former member of the Dark Order. It was a surprise to see him back on AEW TV even briefly, but I'm glad he's doing well lately and from what I understand he's with MLW.
Anywho, after Shane Taylor defeated him, he delivered an in-ring promo where not only he declares war against the Death Riders, but also makes a promise that his faction, the STP, will be the most violent group AEW has ever seen.
I've remember the moment I started to learn more about Shane Taylor back when I started to watch ROH over a decade ago. I found him one of the most interesting heel wrestlers I've ever seen with a lot of charisma and intimidating aura, and to see him delivering a promo on AEW TV for the first time brought a smile on my face. I was hoping that he would get to find his moment on AEW for years now here it is.
Not only that, when the Death Riders came out to start their match against STP, both teams delivered an entertaining and dynamic trios match with STP gaining more heat than before, which is really gonna help them push to be a top heel faction. As for the Death Riders, I still have questions whether they have turn face or making us believe that they did, it all depends how Will Ospreay's road to All In would lead.
That being said, I'm really enjoying the development they're giving between STP and The Death Riders, and this week we're going to see Moxley defending his Continental title against Shane Taylor, so there's no way I'm gonna miss this upcoming classic.
After the match, we saw Tomasso Ciampa making his way to the ring to face BEEF, who also made his debut on AEW TV. While he put up a good fight, Ciampa made him submit by using Jericho's old submission move the Lion Tamer, all to provoke Jericho to show up so he could challenge. I think Ciampa was doing a great job to gain more heat from the fans and maybe that's what they need to see for the moment Jericho returns.
Singles Match: Juices Robinson vs Clark Connors.
In the next bout, Clark Connors and Juice Robinson faced each other in the ring as their feud intensifies after The Dogs defeated The Gunns a week ago. What's more interesting about the match was that they both were former NJPW wrestlers, they were also former members of the original Bullet Club. So it's not a surprised that this would add more spice to this match.
While I felt like I was expecting more of the match, I found this match quite enjoyable despite David Finlay's interference that costed Robinson's match. And I just learned that Robinson and Finlay have some history together as a tag team back in NJPW, so it makes sense that Finlay's interference will make the hostility between the Gang Gang Bang and The Dogs escalate, which could still lead to something big for Forbidden Door.
Not only that, The Dogs also delivered a backstage promo where they challenged the Young Bucks to a tag team match, possibly to determine who will become the contenders to challenge Copeland and Christian for the Tag Team Titles, but I get the feeling that something will happen in that match. Not gonna say what it is, I'd like to keep it until we see the match this week. But one thing for sure is that The Young Bucks vs The Dogs is gonna be sick!
AEW's World Trios Championship Match: LFI (Rush, Dralistico and Sammy Guevara) vs The Conglomeration (Kyle O'Reilly, Roderick Strong and Orange Cassidy) (C)
So we got another titles match and this time it's with LFI challenging The Conglomeration for AEW's World Trios. I found this match up very interesting, especially to see Rush trying to make a comeback after he lost his opportunity to claim the AEW World Championship from MJF. Not only that, I found very strange that Sammy Guevara would be part of the match, but it's because Beast Mortos is still having some Visa issues and I hope it'll be settled soon.
The match was pretty fun too, though. Even though I know Sammy Guevara is heavily criticized on social media, I think he did a pretty good job as an arrogant heel and I feel like they're playing a long-term game where Sammy might cost something heavy to LFI and might get kick out in the end, but that's just my speculation.
The Conglomeration still proves to be the most popular babyfaces in the trios division and it's really a good thing to see Roderick and Kyle still delivering their top-performance in the ring, though I'm hoping we might see them having an important singles match in the near future.
It wasn't a surprise for me to see LFI loss and at that moment I was a little worried about Rush getting another loss, but I can clearly see they might want another shot for those titles and I can tell that AEW has plans for LFI when Beast Mortos finally returns.
The Owen Hart Women's Tournament Match: Hazuki vs Persephone.
Alright, now let's talk about what I think it was the Match Of The Night. Hazuki vs Perspehone for the path to Owen Hart's Tournament Semifinals.
The fact that this match was the main event for the show was the best idea since both these women are the biggest stars of their promotions. It was an exciting match with both ladies going at each other as the crowd enjoyed their top-notch performance so much to even chant their names.
And the huge surprise came when Hazuki defeated Perspehone with La Magistral and earning the path to the semifinals and face none other than Mercedes Mone. Another thing I forgot to mention is that it was pretty smart to play Persephone's eye injury by Julia Hart's mist instead that it could lead her to a heel turn, and I'm curious how her retribution against The Triangle of Madness could lead.
Nevertheless, that was one of the best women's matches I've seen in the show, Hazuki and Persephone gave their best performance that mixed well together. The result was actually unexpected to me, but I'm so excited for Hazuki vs Mercedes, which by the way, this would be their rematch ever since the first time they wrestled was two years ago in NJPW Strong Style Evolved.
Also it's still yet to determined whether Sareee is gonna be cleared to face Skye Blue this Wednesday, as there's been recent news that she claimed her neck is not completely recovered yet, but she will be accompanied by her partner, Takumi Iroha in case that she's going to be replaced. Hopefully she's in good condition. Even so, I'm excited for what's to come tomorrow.
CONCLUSION
I really enjoyed this Collision episode, I'm really enjoying how the new rivalries and feuds are being developed. Though I'm still wondering if there's ever gonna be some development for Forbidden Door since so far we only saw Stardom wrestlers being featured, so we have yet to see if some talent from both NJPW and CMLL is gonna make an appearance.
Hopefully by the time BOSJ tournament is concluded, it would be the start. Still, I'm very excited for Summer Blockbuster this week, which of course it's gonna be split into two parts, one for tomorrow and other for Saturday! It's a great thing we'll have a combined two-hour program.
